The old stone jail is on the National Register of Historic Places and has been restored.

Jewell County Historical Society

The Jewell county Historical Society Museum contains donated gifts of various descriptions. The north building was the original home of the Jewell County Historical Society, donated by Mr. and Mrs. Doc Johnson. The south building was originally the Wint Smith Building which he willed to the Historical Society.

 

The Jewell County Historical Society also has the old Jail at the north east corner of Center & Madison.

 

The building and Threshing Bee grounds north of the city park houses antique tractors, engines and machinery. This is where our Threshing Bee is held on the 3rd weekend in July. Also, on the 3rd Saturday in October the Historical society host a farmers market featuring craft display, food, etc.

 

There is a microfilm reader n the City Library and microfilm of Jewell county Papers through 1988.

The new Library and Communtiy Center

212 North High Street

Rotating book service in addition to permanent library books are available at the new Library. A large genealogy area and Internet access are also available. Hours are: Monday, 6-9 p.m.; Tuesday, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. ; Wednesday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. ; Thursday, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. ; Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. ; Saturday, 9 a.m. - Noon.
This beautiful addition to Mankato was built in 2007. The Community Center has a meeting room able to accommodate 250 people. It also serves as meal site for local seniors and the cooking site for the Jewell County Meals on Wheels.
