Mankato Chamber of Commerce Senior Spotlight: Bergen M.

The Mankato, KS Chamber of Commerce took on the Senior Spotlight project for the 2017-2018 school year in an effort to encourage students to consider returning to Jewell County in the future and to ask important questions about how they think our communities could be improved. For our community to grow in the future, we need to listen to what our young people have to say. Please enjoy this week's Senior Spotlight Interview with Bergen M.

Q: If your had the power to change anything, what would it be?

A: If i had the power to change one thing, I would ensure that every child in the world receives a quality education. Knowledge is so powerful, and every child deserves a fair education opportunity.

Q: What is something that most people may not know about you?

A: I am one eighth Native American.

Q: In terms of businesses (Service, retail, etc.) what do you believe is missing in Mankato that would benefit the people of Jewell County?

A:I think that Jewell County is missing a fitness center. A fitness facility could be partners with the hospital and be used to advance their physical therapy department as well as giving Jewell County residents a way to exercise all year round.

Q:Where do you see yourself in ten years?

A: In ten years, I see myself finishing up my final year of residency, and starting my career as a Dermatologist. I see myself finally accomplishing my dreams and making a difference in the world. Most importantly, I see myself being genuinely happy.

Q: What are some improvement you would like to see in Mankato in the future that would entice our youth to return?

A: Additional daycare would be a great enticement for young people returning to Jewell County. A day care is essential for many young parents with careers.

Q: What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday?

A: I love spending free time exploring Kansas and its vast nature & wildlife. After living in Southern California for a majority of my life, I had never experienced being able to safely adventure country environments. The opportunity for exploration is one of my favorite things about living in Mankato, KS.

Thank you for reading and taking the time to get to know Bergen M! Keep your eye out for this great student and take the time to introduce yourself and encourage her to pursue a future in Jewell County!
