Mankato Chamber of Commerce Senior Spotlight: Sydny Ryba

February 26, 2018

The Mankato, KS Chamber of Commerce took on the Senior Spotlight project for the 2017-2018 school year in an effort to encourage students to consider returning to Jewell County in the future and to ask important questions about how they think our communities could be improved. For our community to grow in the future, we need to listen to what our young people have to say. Please enjoy this week's Senior Spotlight Interview with Sydny Ryba.

Q: If your had the power to change anything, what would it be?

A: The amount of homeless pets. There are so many stray pets just in the town of Mankato. Can you imagine the number of stray pets in the bigger cities?

Q: What is something that most people may not know about you?

A: Everyone knows I love animals, and that love is very strong. I want to ensure that I can help as many animals get a home as possible. The number of stray animals are too big. They deserve a home just as much as humans do. It is just sad seeing all the animals out in such harsh conditions.

Q: In terms of businesses (Service, retail, etc.) what do you believe is missing in Mankato that would benefit the people of Jewell County?

A: Businesses for the youth to go to and get involved in. Most of the store here in Mankato are for the older generations that live here.

Q:Where do you see yourself in ten years?

A: Somewhere in the boarder states with lots of pets and having a job at a Vet Clinic.

Q: What are some improvement you would like to see in Mankato in the future that would entice our youth to return?

A: The community involvement. Over the the community does not involve with our social gatherings as much as they used to. Such as Threshing Bee. Over the years it has gotten smaller and less people end up going.

Q: What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday?

A: Relaxing with my friends, maybe watching a movie.

Thank you for reading and taking the time to get to know Sydny! Keep your eye out for this great student and take the time to introduce yourself and encourage her to pursue a future in Jewell County!
