The Mankato, KS Chamber of Commerce took on the Senior Spotlight project for the 2018-2019 school year in an effort to encourage students to consider returning to Jewell County in the future and to ask important questions about how they think our communities could be improved. For our community to grow in the future, we need to listen to what our young people have to say. Please enjoy this week's Senior Spotlight Interview with Dereck Gillett.
Q: IF YOU HAD THE POWER TO CHANGE ANYTHING, WHAT WOUD IT BE?
A: If I had the power to change anything, I would fix world hunger.
Q: WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT MOST PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A: I enjoying lifting weights, just as much as I enjoy playing sports.
Q: IN TERMS OF BUSINESSES (SERVICE, RETAIL, ETC.) WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS MISSING IN MANKATO THAT WOULD BENEFIT THE PEOPLE OF JEWELL COUNTY?
A: I believe that Mankato is missing a Recreation Center.
Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN TEN YEARS?
A: In ten years, I hope to be working as a Physical Therapist.
Q: MANKATO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS COMMITTED TO ENCOURAGING STUDENTS TO RETURN TO JEWELL COUNTY. WHAT ARE SOME IMPROVEMENTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN MANKATO IN THE FUTURE THAT WOULD ENTICE OUR YOUTH TO RETURN?
A: I think a Recreation Center would be helpful. It would give multiple ages a place to workout or just hangout.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A SATURDAY?
A: My favorite way to spend a Saturday is with the boys.
